Growing up in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, having no conscious knowledge of a Southern Blues Band, “The Allman Brothers Band,” a Capricorn Records act managed by the president of the company, Phil Walden, from Macon, Georgia, I was about to embark on a journey through time and people I otherwise never would have met leaving me with many fond memories and thanks for having lived a life in that era place and time. This is my story! My first recollection of Duane Allman came too late to appreciate his musical career while he was still alive, it took his untimely death (October 29th, 1971). Twiggs Lyndon was Duane Allman’s most devoted advocate, also the first Road Manager of the Allman Brothers Band. I was attending college at Edinboro State University located in the Northwest corner of Pennsylvania, oblivious to the music scene in Macon, Georgia. On a leafy colorful fall day, October 30, 1971, I was leaving Edinboro campus after visiting with a girlfriend at her dorm room, on my way back to my 2 bedroom off campus apartment at Green Oaks; I shared with 3 other class mates. Standing on the corner of Campus at Route 99, basking in the beauty of a brilliant fall day, the University logo framed behind me on the corner lawn, waiting for the traffic light to change to cross the street. While standing among a large crowd of students, a tall male student standing in front of me turns and leans towards the student to his right obviously a friend, hesitating a moment to gain composure, I heard him solemnly say “Duane Allman died yesterday, killed in a motorcycle accident in Macon, Georgia.” Over hearing his comment, my thoughts turned to who Duane Allman was. I sensed this was not the death of just anyone! My mind was blank; I’d never heard of Duane Allman before this moment! It still disappoints me to know I missed seeing Duane Allman play his guitar, and feeling his dynamic presence! The walk light turned on; with everyone else I crossed the street, the revelation of Duane Allman’s death slipped out of my mind leaving me numb of the knowledge by the time I reached the other side of the road. Still, I waited a while before the influences of other people took hold, hearing the music of the Allman Brothers Band “Eat a Peach Album” in the summer of 1972. Initially my first impression was not good!

True Story adventure!
A great book! To many people today depend on truth coming from rumors or heresay and the internet. Getting the views of someone who was actually ALIVE and THERE is taking the mature approach.
